The genus Adelphus Dejean, 1834 originally included two nominal species: Helops beniniensis
Palisot de Beauvois, 1811 and Helops marginatus Fabricius, 1792, and is therefore an available
genus-group name. Bousquet and Bouchard (2013: 58) designated Helops marginatus Fabricius,
1792 as its type species. Based on the Principle of Priority (ICZN 1999, Art. 23.1) the wellestablished name Praeugena Laporte, 1840 is threatened by the recent discovery that Adelphus
Dejean, 1834 is an available genus-group name. We hereby provide supporting references for
the conservation of Praeugena Laporte, 1840 nomen protectum over Adelphus Dejean, 1834
nomen oblitum using Reversal of Precedence (ICZN 1999, Art. 23.9.2). The
