Prey consumption by Xylophagus cinctus De Geer larvae (Diptera: Xylophagidae)
White, RA Jr | Franklin, RT
Journal of the Kansas Entomological Society. Vol. 69, no. 1, pp. 97-99. Jan 1996.
Larval specimens of Xylophagus cinctus were field-collected, presented with prey, and their survival/pupation/emergence tabulated. Larvae attacked and consumed prey by ripping them with sickle-like mandibles and ingesting the body contents, confirming their insectivorous nature. Fed larvae molted, pupated and emerged as healthy adult flies (five males, x super(-) = 9.4 days pupation, (range 4-14 days) and seven females, x super(-) = 7.8 days pupation (range 2-14 days).
T'as raison piezo : c'est des tigres ces petites bêtes !
